As everyone saw the 2011 CrossFit Regional WODs have been announced. In my opinion they all appear to be solid/traditional CrossFit workouts. I was a little concerned about the 21-15-9 Deadlift (315#) & Box Jump (30"). I was able to complete it in 5:22 and feel happy about that time. I do want to practice some of the other workouts, but I am confident in my abilities to complete all of them.
One thing I have noticed a lot more recently is how much better I perform if I spend just a little extra time thinking about my approach to a workout and focusing. Thinking about my approach is to actually visualize myself completing the movements, and having a good understanding of the "flow" of the workout. When it comes to focusing I like to try and slow down my breathing, close my eyes, and really just focus on what I'M doing. This is sometimes hard to do, but if I can make it happen I have noticed my workouts are performed much better.
When I first started CrossFitting this whole idea of focusing was familiar to me but it was neglected. I preferred to joke around a bit and try to have fun with the people around me. Don't get me wrong having fun is REALLY important to me, but as I progress as a CrossFit athlete I realize that to be at my best I must ensure I have better focus.
What do you stare at when training?
