Recovery 3/3-3/5/11

As many of you know I am currently preparing for the CrossFit Open Sectionals starting in a couple of weeks. I believe I am right where I need to be in terms of capacity. With that being said, I am am actually scheduling in 3 days of recovery as my body has been screaming for more rest.

I don't believe it has necessarily been the volume of work I have been doing that has caused this, but I have not been getting enough quality sleep and even my food intake has been a little too low. All of these are easy to manage but as a small biz. owner, CrossFit Coach, Personal Trainer, husband, step-father, and soon-to-be intern I tend to neglect these things.

MY PLAN:

How am I going to fix this problem:

  1. I will be going to bed about 30 min earlier
  2. I will be preparing 2 more meals a day for myself
  3. I am going to supplement with Natural Calm and zinc before bed 
These are three simple acts that will allow me to come back even better/stronger in three days. Yes, I will continue to follow these steps even after the three days, as I know just three days won't fix everything.

Have you ever felt like you needed more rest right before a big event? Did you just push through it? Why? What did you do to improve your recovery/performance?
